This session will explore how the private sector, development finance institutions and policymakers can work together to deploy blockchain and emerging digital technologies for upscaling green finance flows, including carbon and renewable energy financing. What interventions can create an enabling condition for a blockchain-supported green finance ecosystem? Experts and innovators will discuss measures to realise this blockchain vision.

Live Demonstration Workshop: Launching Decentralized Climate Programs on DAO IPCI Blockchain

This event will be a blockchain developers-led demonstration workshop targeting those who intend to launch their own decentralized environmental programs on the blockchain. DAO IPCI founders and engineers will guide audience through some 2018 use cases around operational blockchain infrastructure supporting the world’s first carbon credit transactions. The session will demonstrate:

  • How users can issue carbon credits in blockchain;
  • How smart contracts are used for calculation and offsetting of supply chain-related GHG emissions; and
  • The current blockchain value propositions for environmental finance market players.

Decentralized Integrity for Climate Finance and Carbon Markets

This side event will discuss the application of permissionless (public) blockchain to increase climate ambition and accelerate implementation of the Paris Agreement. The panel will propose principles and introduce live cases better connecting climate finance and carbon markets for the policy makers community, civil society and business sector. Presentations will include:

  1. The combination of blockchain, unmanned aerial vehicles, artificial intelligence and satellite imagery to ‘democratise’ climate finance architecture;
